This weekend Deborah Jane Bridal spent one amazing day at the impressive Leighton Hall, a  fantastic venue for any bride looking for that wow factor with its gothic towers and beautiful surroundings the approach down Leighton Hall’s sweeping driveway is nothing but breathtaking. Sunday witnessed their first ever wedding fair but I’m sure this will have been the first of many.  The fantastic hospitality of the Gillows Reynolds family created a wonderful morning, you could feel the anticipation from the exhibitors as they set up their stalls, just being in  such magnificent surroundings seemed to add to the excitement.

Our mannequins, dressed in a selection of this season’s bridal styles with the striking backdrop of the cantilevered, ‘flying staircase’, set the scene in the superb hallway’. As the clock struck 10.30am a queue formed at the entrance, so with bubbly in hand the first crowd of bride to be were directed by our master of ceremonies from the hallway to the library and enjoyed the magnificently dressed dining table until working their way back through towards the music room.

Outside the sun beamed down as the wedding car nestled next to the impressive helicopter and the stilt men created a very novel talking point as visitors paused to take in the breathtaking view.

Upstairs all our girls and gowns were being prepared, in a cloud of hairspray and make-up and a flurry of tulle, satin and lace with a generous scatter of sparkle, our unique showcase began. Making the most of the weather we chose to set a catwalk down the spiral staircase through the hallway and out the front doors following the red carpet to the awaiting crowd. The crystals sparkled as the models poised in the midday sun. The result, a gorgeous , sophisticated display of our current collection showing bridal gowns from Sophia Tolli, Ronald Joyce and Impression Bridal.

In Our Window this week ~ February 28th 2011 the perfect princess!

The perfect princess dress for the girl who loves sparkle. Never before have I seen a gown like ‘Divina’  by Ronald Joyce features a corseted bodice adorned with faceted crystal, pearl and beading with full tulle skirt. The skirt is made up of petal-shaped tool that fall as scallops throughout. Each perfect leaf  is edged with pearl and beading. With a broad sweeping train this gown looks striking from every angle.  Some of you may have seen ‘Davina’ featured in our catwalk shows, it had graced the steps of the Midland Hotel and waltzed down the catwalk at our recent shows, sparkling all the way! www.deborahjanebridal.co.uk

Dressed for Success~ Oscars Night 2011 the trends!

Is the Oscars about the movies or the dresses, for me there is no contest and the red carpet trends certainly seem to fill more column inches than the film critiques. Many a high street trend has started life on the red carpet and with glamorous evening gowns as far as the eye can see it’s hardly surprising that bridal designers echo the obsession of Oscars night.

Need inspiration for your gown? Here are the red carpet trends for this year:

Red Hot Chilli Pepper!

Tomato, Pepper, pillarbox, whatever you wish to call it , red was the predominant colour, whether it be the simple Calvin Klein sheath dress worn by Jennifer Lawrence or the hollywood inspired ruffles and bustles seen on Anne Hathaway and the elegant Sandra Bullock, Red certainly created some screen sirens this year!

Ladies in Lavender

Purple hues from lilac to deep aubergine brought jewel-like elegance to the red carpet, without a sparkle in sight. Draping, pleats and baby ruffles brought a mix of flowing silhouettes detailed with delicate texture. Supremely feminine but definitely more womanly than girlie. I can see our purple bridesmaids trending towards the deeper shades for an Autumn/Winter wedding and lilac and orchids can be beautiful against all skintones as you can see by the contast between Kate Blanchett and Mila Kunis’ complexion, inspiration perhaps for brides planning a Spring wedding, perfect teamed with Spring flowers.

Let is Shine

Metallics with a difference! Silver, nude shimmer and even copper as seen on Aishwarya Rai. Simple silhouettes given that special touch. This trend teamed everything metallic with feathers, heavy top to toe beading that swings the hemline as it moves or just pure reflective shine like Gwyneth Paltrow’s choice. If you want to make an eye-catching entrance on you prom night, this is the trend for you.

50′s Tea length

One young actress, Hailee Steinfeld aged 14 rocked the red carpet in her tea length Marchesa gown. This is a growing trend within bridal and bridesmaids and as you cen see perfect for petite frames and girlie elegance.  A pretty princess!

And below our answer to the oscars trends, interpreted into Bridal, Prom and Bridesmaids styles:

Ronald Joyce~ Daisy & Donna

My current favourite Ronald Joyce gowns , as shown on our stand at Lancaster House Hotel Wedding Fair today!

Daisy, a organza and tulle gown in a fishtail or mermaid silhouette. Features beaded textured roses throughout the gown with a simple self-tie organza sash. Ideal for tall curvy brides who wish to made a statement.

Donna, a dropped waist full tulle dress with heavily beaded bodice and delicate one shoulder detail (can be removed). Floral corsages are a perfect example of 2011 bridal trends. Not too full in the skirt so perfect whatever your height. If you hanker after a princess gown but still want to show your figure, this dropped waist will give you the best of both worlds.

Faye in Victoria Jane style 'Sandra' a sassy gown with exquisite back detail.

Spent the day today at Lancaster House Hotel for their bi-annual wedding fair. Always a well attended day the catwalk at this event pulls in brides from Lancaster, Morecambe and even out towards Preston. As one of the most popular wedding venues for the local area the team at Lancaster House, headed up by wedding c0-ordinator Deana Chesterton tend to run a amazingly well organised event, not easy when you stop to think of the varied mix of exhibitors on show. From wedding photographers to cupcakes and  make-up artists to ice-cream there really was something for every bride and groom in the midst of planning the perfect day.

New for this wedding fair was the location of the bridal catwalk show. Previously shown in the dalton suite, this had now been dedicated to showing the happy couples exactly what can be achieved in the new refurbished function room. The suite was dressed to exact detail complete with chair covers and starlight backdrop all in a classic black and white theme by the fantastic Helen from Events By Design. Our new catwalk was positioned in the ‘Foodworks’ restaurant, so with dimmed purple hue lighting and stunning floral arrangements by Wedding Flowers By Catherine the atmospheric scene was set.

We showed a selection of gowns from Sophia Tollia, Ronald Joyce and Victoria Jane , three of my favourite labels , not only for their exquisite design but the quality and finish. Steph, Faye, Helen,Sophie,  Jenna, Emma, Samantha and Chloe all glided round the floor with elegance and poise.

Thursday night in Lancaster’s fantastic Dalton Rooms has never been so glamorous. One amazing girl with a big heart and a determination born from personal connections to the people of  Haiti brought together local businesses, dancers, musicians and singers to put of a charity show with real sparkle. Sarah Norris and bubbly petite blonde fizzed into Deborah Jane Bridal less than a month ago, introduced by a mutual friend, Sarah’s passion for raising not only money but awareness of the Haitian peoples continual plight since the massive earthquake of 2010 is amazing. I chose to support Sarah by putting together a fashion show for the evening so together with other local independents, Room 12 and Joseph & Co and with plenty excitement and frenzy behind the scenes the scene was set, the music echoed through the club room and our evening dresses and bridal gowns sashayed down the runway!
